the sixth floor of opulent Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai, Tasca is an exciting new restaurant from culinary master mind José Avillez. The restaurant is named after the Portuguese word for tavern, Tasca is José Avillez’s first international opening, following on behind the Michelin-starred Belcanto along with his other celebrated ventures in Portugal.
Serving genuine Portuguese flavours with a contemporary twist, Tasca’s menu bursts with character and flavour. Complementing the menu is a wine list with the largest selection of Portuguese wines in Dubai as well as a tempting a number of craft cocktails.
Traditional Portuguese food is based on fish, seafood and meat (especially pork), which is grilled, fried or cooked up in stews and casseroles. Portugal offers cuisine that appeals to a true food lover. Diners can discover local and traditional Portuguese foods that can be tried at Tasca. The Portuguese word for codfish is bacalhau, In Portuguese cooking, it is made dried and salted cod, which is usually soaked in milk or water before cooking. Soups include fish soups, bread soups, cold tomato soups – and caldo verde is the most famous soup in Portugal. Caldo verde originated from the Minho province of northern Portugal. Portugal’s favourite fast food includes frango no churrasco (‘chicken on the barbeque’) or frango no brasa (‘chicken on hot coals’). Arroz doce offers delicious delights, with egg-based and creamy and rich sweets. Rich, egg-based desserts, flavoured with cinnamon and vanilla can be relished at the end of a meal too.
