Expo 2020 Dubai is hosting a virtual space-themed event

Expo 2020 Dubai is hosting a massive virtual event this week and it’s bringing together some of the biggest names in space travel.

Famous names include Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Sciences, Chairwoman of the UAE Space Agency and science lead for the Emirates Mars Mission, who will discuss the benefits, solutions and challenges of exploring beyond our planet’s orbit. The space-themed event is all set to feature Chief Scientist at NASA, James L. Green and there will be numerous Q&A sessions and panel discussions.

There will also be space projections and various shows that depict the UAE’s incredible space journey at Al Wasl Plaza – one of the largest 360-degree projection surfaces in the world. Coinciding with World Space Week. Expo 2020 Dubai will be hosting ten themed weeks, bring together some of the most ambitious minds in the world to address some of the greatest challenges facing the planet including Climate and Biodiversity, Health and Wellness; Urban and Rural Development, and Travel and Connectivity.

Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director General of Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau, will open the event, the first in a series offering a taste of the exciting content and conversations that will take place during Expo 2020.

Space Week will be one of 10 Expo-led thematic weeks tasked with finding collaborative solutions to some of the most pressing challenges of our time. Running during the six months of Expo 2020 – which will blast off from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022. These will be focusing on specific issues, including Climate and Biodiversity; Health and Wellness; Urban and Rural Development; and Travel and Connectivity.

Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director-General of Expo 2020 Dubai, said: “We welcome today’s recommendation of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) Executive Committee to support a request by the UAE Government and Expo 2020’s Steering Committee to postpone Expo 2020 for a year.

“Now the official process for agreeing a delay begins, and we look forward to working constructively with BIE Member States, our friends, and partners to confirm the new date of 1 October 2021 when the Expo will open its doors, and the UAE will welcome the world.”
