Eid Al Adha is one of the most significant holidays in the Islamic calendar. The name translates to ‘festival of sacrifice’, and marks the end of the Hajj season, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.
During this holiday, the entire atmosphere is filled with giving and happiness all across Dubai, making it a special time for residents and visitors alike. Families get together over traditional meals, fireworks brighten up the skies, venues come alive with decorations and cultural performances, and deals can be availed in favourite malls.
Islam follows a lunar calendar, the exact dates of the festival are subject to moon sightings. Stay tuned for all the Eid Al Adha celebrations taking place across Dubai this year.
UAE residents may have a six-day public holiday for Eid Al Adha! Dates are subject to the sighting of the moon but it’s expected that Arafat Day will fall on Monday July 19, with Eid Al Adha due to be announced a day later on Tuesday July 20.
However this all depends on the moon and the moon sighting committee.
Arafat Day is the second day of the annual hajj, known as the pilgrimage, and takes place the day before the start of Eid Al Adha. Translating to “feast of the sacrifice”, Eid Al Adha is the latter of the two biggest Islamic holidays celebrated worldwide each year and it begins on the 10th day of Dhu Al Hijjah.
A six-day holiday is on the cards for UAE residents who work from Sunday to Thursday, and although dates are subject to the sighting of the moon, it’s expected that the six-day break will begin on Monday July 19.
