Noor Dubai
Initiative was launched in September 2008 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai with a vision of a world free from preventable forms of blindness.
After witnessing the accomplishment of reaching out to over 5 million individuals during its first year, a decree law was passed by the Ruler of Dubai transforming Noor Dubai from an initiative into a non-government/non-profit entity. It was given complete legal capacity and independence that was required to conduct all its tasks and achieve its targets.
The World Health Organization (WHO) releases statistics about blindness and eye diseases at a global scale in regular basis. The data, each year, the number of affected people rises at an alarming rate.
The fact is, one person in the world goes blind every 5 seconds. To deal with and respond to these alarming statistics, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President, Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai launched the “Noor Dubai Initiative” on September 3, 2008. Noor Dubai started as an international charitable initiative for the prevention and treatment of blindness and low vision.

Noor Dubai was launched with the vision of a world free
from avoidable causes of blindness. Noor Dubai provides therapeutic, preventative and educational programs to treat and prevent blindness and visual impairment in developing countries on a regional and international scale. In its first year and following the success achieved of reaching out to over 5.8 million individuals worldwide, a decree was passed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, launching the Noor Dubai Foundation a non-governmental, non-for-profit organization, aiming to eliminate all forms of preventable blindness globally.
The team has come a long way since our inception in 2008. They have surpassed the expectations and prevented them from further going into a world of complete darkness, idleness and hopelessness. As an organization,
the team believes in empowering individuals to become useful members in their societies and time after time they are able to witness the miracles and their progress. It is a blessing to have good health, food, shelter and all basic requirements to live respectfully. The team realizes the importance of the gift of vision, of being able to see life ahead.
