The property was built to defend against British attacks and former home to the Quwasim family it was later used as a police headquarters and jail before becoming home to the museum in 1987. The exhibits provide an interesting insight into the history and traditions of the region, including historical, cultural and archaeological material.
Located close to the Mohammed bin Salim Mosque at the western edge of the emirate, the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah is a historic fort in the northern emirate. Archaeological excavations and research suggest have revealed that this building was once the ruling family’s residence.
