The animated series Shaabiat Al Cartoon has fascinated a lot of admirers, and is presented with a worthy motivation. The attractiveness of the programme, screened every night on Dubai’s youth-oriented Sama Dubai channel, has surpassed big-budgeted production companies, making it become one of the most-watched Emirati productions since its television debut in 2006.
The Arabic word Shaabiat means “rural neighbourhood” and surveys the lives of a group of families and individuals living in a small Dubai neighbourhood. There are 24 main characters from countries throughout Africa, the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent. The Emirati show Shaabiat has made a successful appearance on the opening day of DSF 2014 and drew countless Arabic fans from all age groups under a common platform during its four performances at the Mushrif Park on January 2nd, 2014.
The show features an ageing bachelor, looking to tie the nuptial knot. After numerous efforts, two female friends propose to him by uploading videos onto Al Keek, a current video uploading platform – to appeal for better marriage proposals from interested ladies. The good idea goes wrong for the bachelor when one of the uploaded videos creates a series of undesirable responses from the community.
The Shaabiat Al Cartoon spreads an important message and advises both children and adults on the suitable use of digital and online platforms. The comical show is flavoured with a genuine intention to educate the audiences on numerous issues relevant to the Arab society.
