World famous chef Pierre Gagnaire, the Michelin-starred Frenchman already has a patisserie, but now he has launched a chic bistro experience that evokes the spirit of his homeland by drawing inspiration from ‘simple, fresh ingredients’.
Pierre’s Bistro overlooks Dubai Creek from the InterContinental Dubai Festival City with a contemporary bar, spacious dining room and stylish outdoor lounge terrace. The menu features the chef’s creativity and features innovative dishes such as beef oscietra caviar, tuna tataki crispy rice and meringua tarta-citrus jelly. Gagnaire is happy and hopes it will be a place where guests ‘linger long into the night’ at glamorous gatherings and secret soirees.
He has experienced epic success in Paris (his two restaurants with six Michelin stars between them), as well as in London (Sketch), Hong Kong (Pierre à Hong Kong) and Tokyo (Pierre à Tokyo). The chef previously had a fine dining restaurant in Dubai named Reflets, but it closed its doors at the InterContinental late in 2016. This new venture is its replacement – and diners couldn’t wait to try it out. French fine dining landscape of Dubai has new ventures with Le Cirque and Pierre’s Bar and Bistro. Pierre’s is the second new outlet to open at the Intercontinental Festival City, following seafood speciality spot The Fish House. This five-star hotel is revamping their F&B offerings and with all attention to the Dubai Creek ahead of Expo 2020, the area is set to become the new heart of the city with the arrival of ‘The Tower at Dubai Creek Harbour’ – a structure looking to unsurp the Burj Khalifa for the title of the world’s tallest building.
Beautiful interiors, Gagnaire is renowned for three Michelin stars in his native France, alongside ownership of the Pierre Gagnaire Restaurant in Paris and his being head Chef of Sketch in London’s Mayfair. Gagnaire’s style is distinctly fusion and is defined by the contrasting compositions of his plates, in terms of both textures and flavours. The dishes here are artfully plated featuring on the restaurants Instagram page. The space offers immediate appeal with verdant foliage, bronze accents and lots of floral prints that showcase a feeling that describe as ‘Miami Vice-esque.’ Diner get to see stuffed cockatiels, a large bronze tortoise and a spacious outside terrace here, ideally positioned for good views of the sound and light show that are organised in Festival Bay every 30 minutes during the evenings.
Skillfully crafted cocktails can be enjoyed before sitting down to dine. Pierre’s the bar is a main part of the dining experience and a place where diners can spend time pre or post dinner. With Gagnaire famous for fusion, a glance at the menu is an immediate reflection of his style. Laid out in both French and English the ingredients are notably French, as are some of the signature dishes. Mixed Tataki has the bread, freshly baked in house and the crudo (raw) bar from which diners select a mixed tuna and beef tataki. The pizza is fresh and cheesy. Thhe Gambas de Madagascar represent a spectacular dish of Madagascan prawns served with a crisp black bread, preserved lemon and spinach, smoked inside a glass bell jar. Frogs legs, Lacquered pork belly are a treat for foodies.
Desserts are perhaps the strongest elements of the dining experience with the Burrata Ice Cream, Apple tart Reflets making it’s way over to the top of the list. The lemon cake, the Guanaja chocolate biscuit soufflé – the indulgent dessert are designed for chocoholics – evoking a sense of childhood nostalgia for many.
