DXB Entertainments, theme park company and operator of Dubai Parks & Resorts had recently announced that it is extending the temporary suspension of its operations across the park, in light of the COVID-19 outbreak. Following the announcement, DXB Entertainments said that it is in talks with its syndicated loan financiers, in regard to its $1.1bn (AED4.2bn) syndicated loan facility.
Commenting on DXB Entertainments’ cost management director and chief executive officer, DXB Entertainments, Mohammed Almulla, said: “Consequently, COVID-19 will have a material impact on our 2020 results. However, given the high level of uncertainty, it is too early to quantify this impact. Our contingency plans have been activated and as of today, we have either implemented or are in the process of implementing further cost savings, in addition to the material savings already delivered in 2019. Our liquidity position is robust and has further improved by reaching an agreement with our financing partners to defer a significant proportion of our interest over the next 15 months, significantly improving our near term liquidity.”
In 2019, the company had implemented a cost efficiency and optimisation plan in 2019, and delivered 24% savings year-on-year savings of $27.2m (AED172m) with further savings, due to the annualised impact, expected in 2020. Due to the present uncertain and unfavourable environment, DXB Entertainments also announced its decision to delay the opening of the Legoland Hotel from June 2020 to Q4 2020.
