One of the world’s largest skydiving operations, Skydive Dubai, is based at a private aerodrome on a small stretch of artificial land in the azure waters of the Persian Gulf. The nearby Jumeirah waterfront skyscrapers add to its genuinely spectacular backdrop. The company was the brainchild of His Excellency Nasser Al Neyadi, who set up the initial skydiving operation in 2008 with just a helicopter and a wind tunnel for training. By 2010, it had hosted the first Dubai International Parachuting Championship, adopting the Skydive Dubai name soon afterwards. Despite its then basic facilities – among them, a 400m sand runway, a tent and a few portable cabins – Skydive Dubai quickly built a reputation as one of the most spectacular freefall ventures in the world.
Since its launch, the company’s Jumeirah base has been considerably upgraded. Today it is consists of a large landing field for parachutists, including a swoop pond, two helipads, a terminal with gear rental facilities, a full-service rigging loft, parachute pack stations, space for group briefings, washroom facilities, office space and an operations department, as well as a separate restaurant. Since 2012, Skydive Dubai aircraft has operated from a purpose-built 760m hard-surface runway (direction 06/24) that stretches 550m into the sea, constructed from precast concrete and resting on massive piles on the ocean bed.
A tandem skydive is the quickest and easiest way to experience the thrill of freefall at over 120 miles per hour while securely harnessed to one of its experienced and accomplished instructors. Adrenaline enthusiasts can live this adventure at its two world-class locations, the Palm Dropzone and the Desert DropzonE. According to its website, every customer who purchases a tandem package at either of its locations will receive photographs and our standard edited video of their experience. It will be sent via email within 48 hours of completing their skydive. The tandem package also includes medical insurance and skydiving in a premium location, the Palm Dropzone, which costs AED 2,299. Located within the city of Dubai, the highlight of a tandem experience here is the stunning view of the iconic Palm Jumeirah island.
Those looking for a thrilling experience closer to the ground, take flight with Skyhub’s Gyrocopter. The two-seat, unique aircraft delivers an exclusive experience at 1,500 ft.
