Offering a fresh perspective on Spanish dining, El Sur is sophisticated in design and innovative in its unique cuisine. Set on the lobby level of the Westin Hotel Mina Seyahi, the place has a light, airy feel to both the restaurant and its veranda-style terrace.
As the clients enter the restaurant, they’ll be greeted by welcoming staff. The place is set up with high tables and bar stools; large round tables that are placed on the dark wooden flooring. One has the class of a contemporary European eatery. Dishes are artfully presented, the food at El Sur is delightful. The staff is quick to serve a refresh cocktail before the guests are guided to their seat for dinner. The staff are outstanding and are happy to make recommendations for tapas selection. For all those who are looking for a great meat dish, they can have the Carpaccio de Ternera con helado de queso Valdeleon; that’s beef carpaccio with Valdeleon ice cream. Dinner at El Sur is delicious and guests also enjoy being confined to the bar and spend a relaxed time. The centre of the restaurant is a long, high sharing table, that is perfect for a casual glass of grape and assorted cheeses and cold cuts and other European antipasti. The other end of dining area has the backlit bar and the doors to a spacious Iberian terrace lined with a rising tree line (on the first floor of The Westin),
Adding authentic dishes in the menu that comes in both Spanish and English, the place is packed with influence from all over Spain, from the Catalan stew to the Mediterranean carabineros (deep sea prawns), and various customised paella dishes right from the light vegetable option to a considerably heavier foie and truffle option.
Offering a very welcomed addition to Dubai’s restaurant scene, El Sur is one of the most popular places to dine in the Westin Hotel on Al Sufouh Road. The food is authentic, the tapas is reasonably priced and many of the patrons are Spanish. The contemporary menu is prepared by chef Juan Carlos Gonzalez Hermandez, a veteran of several Michelin-starred restaurants including the three-starred El Bulli in Spain. The place is open for the brunch, foodies can also try a la carte offering. The snacks such as the croquette tapas is flavourful. The mushroom and cheese is served with a truffle and the shrimp is very popular. Other classic tapas plates include patatas bravas, marinated Manchego cheese and Gordial olives. El Sur’s signature rice is delightful with seafood. The plate has black squid ink rice topped with silvery cuttlefish, calamari and vibrant green microherbs. For sweet to end to the meal, one can have a portion of torrija con helado de limon or, caramelized brioche with lemon ice cream, that is ideal for sharing. Diners can order desserts such Arroz con leche, citricos y helado de nueces (milky rice pudding with cirtus flavours and walnut ice cream) Crema Catalana de vainilla y sorbete de mandarina (Catalan vanilla ice cream and mandarin sorbet).
