Approximately 3,000 workers, who work in the summer heat cleaning the city, were provided with ‘cooling caps’ to beat the heat.
The Dubai Municipality has distributed these hats in a bid to make sure that workers are protected from the blazing sun. The caps are powered by solar energy, and have a built-in mini-fan that will help workers of the Dubai Municipality to beat the heat.
Abdul Majeed Saifaie, Director of the Waste Management Department, spoke to the press about the initiative, the very first of its kind, that started on the directives of Director-General Eng. Hussain Nassir Lootah to ensure the well- being of every employee who works in these tough conditions and to help and make our city a comfortable place to live in. They have distributed 3,000 caps to the workers, mostly those who clean the city.
He stressed on the fact that the Dubai Municipality is relentlessly striving to provide a better working environment to its workers. The management is aware that the summer is extremely hot and they decided to do something for the workers who have to be outdoors. These caps are one of the most uncomplicated and impacting relief. This is going to help the workers reduce their stress and exhaustion at the job. The light-weight, made of cotton fabric cap is powered by solar energy. Saifaie also shared that the workers are pleased with the gesture. They can see that the senior management is working toward their safety and well-being and that makes them happy.
The officials added details to ensure that their workers don’t have to work during the peak time during summer and put up with the rules by the Ministry of Labour’s mid-day break timings for summer. The Director-General had previously launched the Takaful Box initiative that collects donations for the welfare of workers. Lootah calls the workers the unsung heroes of the city, and encouraged every department to take measures to ensure their workers are provided with a secure and healthy life.
