Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo has unveiled yet another surprise for all. Just weeks after the appearance of King Croc, the zoo has greeted a new addition – a Giant Pacific Octopus.
Last month, the zoo showcased the five-metre long, 750kg crocodile and its female friend. Now, there is a lot more attractions for Dubai Mall visitors!
The Giant Pacific Octopus is the largest of its species, measuring 4.3 metres long and weighing more than 70kg. It has just about no bones at all, which makes it easy for it to slip and squeeze into constricted spaces to dodge predators and to hunt for food.
The giant pacific octopus has all of its vital organs, including 3 hearts, which are contained within its head. The rest of its body is made up of its eight tentacles, each with two rows of suckers.
The octopus is found in the North Pacific Ocean – it has an outstanding eye-sight and even has the ability to taste with its tentacles!
They are significantly intelligent and can work out puzzles and find routes out of a maze after only a few tries. The Octopus’s neighbour, King Croc, has come all the way from Australia, where it has lived since 1996. The 40-year-old King Croc is one of the world’s largest reptiles. It measures over five metres in length and weighting over 750kg – more than the weight of 15 men! It is expected to live for another 50 years, and can continue to grow until then.
