Dubai Design Week is famous as the region’s largest creative festival, reflecting Dubai’s position as the design capital of the Middle East. The fifth edition of Dubai Design Week takes place 11 to 16 November, and offers hundreds of events covering design across an assorted range of disciplines including architecture, product, furniture, interior and graphic design.
Major events include the region’s leading design trade fair, Downtown Design, where brands from near and far showcase limited-edition designs and creative ingenuity. The Global Grad Show displays works from 100 of the most innovative universities across the world, and finally Abwab, which curates projects celebrating original design from the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia.
This year’s programme is packed with inspiring creative feats from around the world. Get a taste of Afghan efforts in design, urban conservation and heritage protection at a pop-up exhibition by NGO Turquoise Mountain, or see an up-cycled installation by an Istanbul-based architecture studio.
Conducted each year in October, Dubai Design Week Brings about a positive change and creates a space that encourages the progress of the design industry in Dubai. They not just work towards establishing the city as the regional capital for design, but also as a global meeting point for the international design community. Many design-dedicated events, activities and projects are going to be conducted within d3 and across the city. The events will contribute to celebrate the best in design both regionally and internationally.
Dubai Design Week is one of the world’s innovative and most ambitious international design events, created to lay focus on on Dubai as a leading design hub, and share the UAE’s thriving design scene with the world at large. Dubai Design Week was established in 2015 by Art Dubai Group in partnership with Dubai Design District (d3).
The city reflects a progressive outlook, its design week is both regional and international in scope, covers public and private spheres, culture, education and entertainment, and spans multiple disciplines, ranging from graphic and product design to architecture and industrial design. Many panels, speeches, discussions, public performances and educational workshops are conducted to the greater discussion of design and its value for the region and the world. In the year 2015, close to 23,000 visitors from around the world visited the city to discover the work and ideas of over 150 designers from around the region and internationally.
Dubai Design Week is owned and managed by the Art Dubai Group, a joint venture company between the Dubai International Financial Centre and Middle East Fairs Ltd.
