Some enchanting creatures from the deep sea, visited land during this Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS)! Large numbers of enthusiastic kids and parents from around the city, could be seen enjoying the spectacle.
A group of actors – all dressed in marine animal costumes – could be seen wandering the aisles of the City Centre Mirdif. They took pleasure in meeting and surprising shoppers, who consistently stopped in their tracks to enjoy the display, and capture the excitement with their cameras.
The Animal Parade – Sea Characters involving friendly dolphins, an enormous octopus, a gaping-mouthed shark, and a colourful school of fish, quickly found itself among the most popular attractions for kids during this DSS, grasping the attention of visitors of all ages and nationalities.
The aquatic creatures put on an extravagant and beautifully staged pageant as they paraded through the teeming corridors. Their following grew larger and happier with every corner, as more and more jubilant kids merged into the crowd – along with their parents.
The enthusiasm was substantial as the children crowded each other to pose with the animal characters. Their parents kept clicking away on their cameras, enjoying the event as much as their children.
“I’m so happy I got to shake hands with all these lovely characters,” said a beaming Aahil, an Indian national. “My favorite is the octopus. He’s so big, and so cute, unlike the ones I’ve seen on TV. I also like the dolphins. I wish I can get them to come to our school; it would be fun playing with them along with all my friends.”
The father of Ameer, a 3-year-old boy from Jordan, said: “There’s never a better time to visit the mall with your kids than when such colourful and entertaining acts are on. My son kept following the roaming characters around the mall all evening long, and it was quite a struggle keeping pace with his brisk legs. But we enjoyed it, because he was having so much fun.”
Also seen having a good time, was 8-year-old Dylan and his little sister Haley. “I knew there would be loads of fun shows during DSS so I had checked the festival’s events calendar and knew of the marine animal parade coming to town. I’m now going to get my mom to upload our pictures with the shark and the dolphins on her Facebook page,” said a visibly excited Dylan, who’s from the Philippines.
The 17th edition of DSS is organized by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), and will run until 5 September this year, under the theme, “The Fun Side of Summer.”
