The Aquaventure waterpark at Atlantis, The Palm is going to open an enormous wing for the guests. It could be ready in time for the Eid-Al-Fitr public holidays. The newest and most awaited tourist attraction this summer includes four themed slides and the longest zipline in the Middle East. The park management is waiting to watch the success of the park, they are sure the popularity will pull residents and tourists, even in the summer heat.
Scott Deisley, Vice-President of Aquaventure said they want to open as soon as possible but the team wants to ensure that everything has to be just right. The biggest attraction is shaped like a huge “anaconda”, the new waterslide can be accommodate up to six people at a time in a rubber dinghy.
Another ride with occupancy of six people features an enormous slide that twists almost 90 degrees. Many others including, two near-vertical chutes accessed through a trapdoor and a zipline that will add more excitement for the guests to a mid-air view of the complete resort and the Palm Jumeirah.
Mr Deisley does not feel that summers will hold back the visitors, instead they’re very busy in the summer a lot more than the rest of the months. The new slides are designed by a Canadian company called Whitewater Parks International, and is going to be a huge success. The management is expecting people amazed at the enormity of the slides. People from Dubai and other regions are expected to enjoy the rides.
The park’s 40-metre tall imitation pyramid, was under construction from February after a nine-month design period. The slides were constructed in sections in Bahrain, the Philippines, Canada and the US, then moved to Dubai and finally assembled and that made the process much quicker.
According to the statistics from the Global Attractions Attendance Report, produced by the Themed Entertainment Association, the Aquaventure is positioned as the 7th most liked and popular water park in the world. Last year 1.3 million visitors came to the park, a rise from the 1.2 million in 2011. Wild Wadi was the 17th with 860,000 visitors, down from 890,000 the previous year.
Mr Deisley said they don’t feel the competition as they are aware Dubai is one popular destination and the Palm is going to continue to grow. With new hotels opening on the crescent, people are going to have something interesting and adventurous to do.
