Cry (Ireland) the winner of Dubai WORLD cup 2002

In its short history, the Dubai World
Cup has quickly established itself as one of the world's most important
races. With its huge purse of $6 million, the largest offered in
all of racing, top horses from around the world have shipped in
to the ancestral home of the Thoroughbred in hopes of capturing
the winner's share and the unofficial title of Horse of the World.
This year, the favorite is expected
to be Godolphin's Sakhee who just missed winning the Breeders' Cup
Classic last year by a nose. The US only had one entry in the World
Cup this year, Western Pride, who is currently listed at 16-1 on William
Hill, however he was sold this week to HRH Prince Faisal Bin Khaled
Bin Abdul Aziz. There are several other US horses entered in the undercard
races including crack sprinters Xtra Heat and Caller One.
Final entries have now been taken
and post positions drawn. Saddle cloth numbers are assigned in alphabetical
order by weight but post positions are random. The races will be
shown on TVG live Saturday morning March 23rd and via tape delay
on ESPN2 Sunday March 24th from 4:00-4:30pm EST. Most tracks will
be taking wagers on at least the World Cup and possibly some of
the undercard, so check with your local track or OTB to see what
their hours are for Saturday.
