Dubai Millennium (United Kingdom) the winner
of dubai world cup 2000
Dubai
Millennium was a racehorse owned by the Godolphin stables, who raced
predominantly in Europe. He was by Seeking The Gold, out of Colorado
Dancer. He is considered to be one of the best racehorses from 1990
onwards.
Dubai Millennium made his debut as a
two year old at Yarmouth race course, over a mile. He started odds-on
favorite and won by five lengths despite being eased down by jockey
Frankie Dettori in the closing stages. At three, he was aimed at
the Epsom Derby, easily winning his two preparatory races. The Derby,
run over a mile and a half, proved to be too long a distance for
him, and he finished ninth. It would be the only time he was beaten.
He ran three more times as a three year
old, always winning easily, including a six length victory in the
Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot Racecourse. The following year
he would win his most famous victory, the one for which he had been
pre-emptively named - The 2000 Dubai World Cup. His crushing six
length victory in the world's richest horse race marked him out
as an amazing racehorse, a fact borne out by his Timeform rating
of 140 - the highest in the world since Dancing Brave achieved a
similar mark in 1986, and only beaten by twelve horses in the 20th
Century.
Unfortunately, Dubai Millennium died
a year after retiring to stud, and only producing one crop of offspring.
