  8 April 2011

Women achievers from the UAE and other countries of the Middle East will be honoured for their outstanding contribution in their chosen fields at an award ceremony to be held in Dubai on April 15.

A total of 18 women achievers from various fields will be honoured with the GR8! Women Awards, an extension of the most recognised event held in India for the past 10 years.

Anu Ranjan, editor of the GR8! TV Magazine and organiser of the event, said that these awards have had a highly celebrated existence in India. During this decade, the awards have celebrated Women Achievers in India from all walks of life.

The award has been conferred upon some of the most illustrious personalities in India including the legendary singer Asha Bhosle, the most eminently-regarded philanthropist Nita Ambani, the most exceptional exponent of classical dance Yamini Krishnamoorthy, veteran politician and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit, actresses Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sushmita Sen, writer-activist Mahashweta Devi, classical dance exponent Sonal Mansingh and Maharani Gayatri Devi.

"Now, the awards are going global with the opening of the Middle East chapter in Dubai on April 15. This opening of new horizon for the awards is important, because the accomplishments of women need to be accorded recognition and honour all across the world," she added.

She pointed out that the Middle East was chosen as the first destination outside India because women are turning over a new leaf in the region for themselves. Today, they are excelling in all walks of life.

The evening, besides hailing the glory of womanhood in Middle East, will also be studded with dazzling performances by Bollywood stars like Raveena Tandon, Vivek Oberoi, Jacqueline Feernandez and renowned singers like Madhushree and Shailendra Singh.

The ceremony will be attended by many Bollywood celebrities, adding lustre to the proceedings.

The award ceremony will be hosted by veteran actor Kabir Bedi and TV anchor Rahaf Al Taawil, in the presence of Bollywood celebrities Preity Zinta, Mahima Chaudhary, Zeenat Aman, Yuvika Chaudhary, Mugda Godse, Bhagyashree, Poonam Dhillon, Khusboo, Harman Baweja, Arjan Bajwa and playback singer Alka Yagnik.

The awards are also a platform for ‘Beti' (Daughter), which is an initiative of Anu Ranjan and a crusade against female foeticide in India. For its Middle East version, the awards will launch an awareness campaign against breast cancer that is so prevalent in the UAE.
