UAE's first Celebrating Marketing Week (CMW) event concludes Saturday after three days of activities bringing the entire marketing community together.
The University of Strathclyde Business School in the UAE organised the event, marking the 40th anniversary of its Department of Marketing.
The events, most of which take place at the university's Dubai campus, will be free to individuals with an interest in the field.
Focusing on the particular challenges faced by practitioners in the Middle East, guests will be addressed by a number of government and private organisations, including the Jumeirah Group, Dubai One and DEWA, alongside academics from the university's Marketing Department.
On Friday, UAE-based undergraduates participated in a competition, held in association with Dubai One, to develop a marketing campaign idea in line with the media firm's social media strategy. They were asked to increase traffic to their social media websites and told that the idea should further a ‘social good' and incorporate CSR.
The student teams were required to present their ideas to a panel of judges.
While shedding light on the topics for discussion at the event, Professor Kevin Ibeh, head of the Department of Marketing at the university, had said, "From the role social media and sports marketing in contemporary Middle East, to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and firm internationalisation, our Celebrating Marketing Week will open up debate on the future role and development of marketing throughout the region.”
"Being the first event of its kind in the UAE dedicated to marketing, we hope to involve as much of the relevant community as possible,” he added.
During the three days, the university also hosted the first gathering of the department's alumni based in the Gulf region.
The CMW event is also being used as a platform to announce the next intake for the University of Strathclyde's postgraduate MSc in Marketing programme in the UAE.
