Shoppers from the UK spent $9.2m during the first week of Dubai Shopping Festival, $3m more than the second highest spenders from the US, according to data from Visa.
Chinese visitors recorded the highest jump in spending, splashing $5.4m in the first week – a rise of 155 percent on the previous year, the card company said in a statement.
US consumers spent a total of $6.2m on their Visa cards.
Shoppers from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, India and France also made Visa's top ten list of spenders.
Dubai Shopping Festival is one of the emirate's biggest events of the year, attracting thousands of visitors to the city looking for bargains.
Retail sales during the 2009 festival declined by two percent compared to the previous year as a result of the global economic downturn. Figures are still unavailable for last year.
Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment on Monday said malls had seen a 10-25 percent increase in visitors and sales during the month long festival, which finished on Sunday.
Visa said its consumers spent 28 percent more during the first week of this year's festival compared to 2010. Shoppers spent a total of $75m during the first seven days of the festival compared to $54.7m the previous year.
