At high speeds, controlling a vehicle in such a situation is near impossible. Reducing speed limits is a very good move by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). There is no need for civilians to drive at break-neck speeds. It may take an hour or two more to get to a really far off destination, but it is better to get there in one piece than not at all.
It might be hard for those used to leaving at the last moment and travelling at high speeds to reach some place to give up the habit. However, if nothing is done about the speed limit, the fatalities will just keep rising and as long as it does not happen to a loved one it is just a news report that is read and forgotten. RTA's decision should be applauded.
