Through the release of economic indicators for the first half of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) 2010, specialized industry sources within different economic sectors in Dubai announced remarkable results for the biggest summer extravaganza in the region for the retail, travel and tourism sectors.
"Dubai Shopping Malls Group" (DSMG) announced that it has recorded more than Dhs550m ($150m) in sales during the first four weeks of DSS, with shoppers spending heavily on great bargains and a chance to win one of the BMW 3 series sedans through a popular purchase linked raffle draw "shop and win" organised by DSMG in collaboration with DSS.
Inbound travel has also substantially picked up during DSS, with airline carriers, including state-owned Emirates, reporting a 68% to 90% load factor in the first half of DSS, boosted by various travel offers and promotions.
With inbound travelers increasing, the hospitality sector likewise saw a positive 15% increase in demand for rooms across budget, mid-range and premium hotels. Hotel managers say that there has also been a marked increase in bookings from across the GCC countries.
Modhesh World, the region's largest indoor theme park, also recorded a 5% increase in gate sales, with Modhesh and various edutainment offers delighting more than 260,000 visitors during the first four weeks of this year's summer celebrations.
