Last few days to experience the Safari Adventures in Dubai
  8/22/2006 8:55:49 AM

There is one place in Dubai where llamas, pythons, tarantulas and African Grey parrots all coexist peacefully. Sadly, only for a few days more.

Safari Adventures: the fun-packed introduction to the beauty of the environment, created as part of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) at Hall No. 7 of Dubai World Trade Centre by the Real Estate Department, will soon be ending.

Scheduled to conclude on September 1, the Safari Adventures is open to the public everyday from 10am to 10pm on weekdays and from 3pm to 11pm on Fridays.

The exhibit has been planned around the theme of biodiversity. It has caves where various species of reptiles are displayed and artificial lakes filled with fish and amphibians.

Pelican Lake, surrounded by natural greenery, has wooden observation bridges as well as benches on the bank. Its inhabitants are ducks and swans. The Turtles Lake also has an island at its centre, where different species of frogs, turtles and crabs live. The Fish Lake, the largest one of the three lakes, is filled with 22,000 gallons of water with many species of river fish from different parts of the world.

The new events introduced this year at Safari Adventure are the Insect Tunnel -- a sandy tunnel with display cases for more than 100 species of insects found in nature. The Parrot Jungle, is a caged area where visitors can observe rare species of parrots, macaws and parakeets.

The Hunter Shanty, is inspired by traditionally designed hunters’ jungle lodges. Artificial models of wild animal heads are displayed, instead of stuffed heads of real animals, to drive home the importance of preserving wild life and protecting it from the dangers of extinction and wrongful hunting.

Many events and lectures are being held everyday to raise public awareness about the importance of preserving natural environment, in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Environment and the Marine Life Research Centre.

Another new feature is the Bamboo Jungle, a labyrinth made of bamboo trunks, where its fun to enter but a challenge to get out. In addition, pony and camel rides also feature on the menu of activities. Many gifts and prizes are also being given away to visitors, while The African Drum Band from Cote d’Ivoire continues to entertain visitors with traditional rhythms. Magic animal shows, performances and dancing shows will also be performed by a professional team specialised in kids shows.

Kudos to the Dubai Real Estate Department for organising the Safari Adventures as it is a better and brighter redesigned event this year, aimed at attracting a larger number of visitors. It has become a destination for the whole family and a place where both children and adults can enjoy and entertain themselves. The move will positively contribute to promoting Dubai as a family and tourism destination.
