Getex on; over 2,500 study options to be on offer at exhibition

Dubai 2011, the region's premium educational exhibition was opened at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre on Thursday.
UAE Minister for Higher Education and Scientific Research Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, opened the three-day event, which is expected to attract around 30,000 visitors, including students, parents and university officials.
Anselm Godinho, managing director, International Conferences & Exhibitions (IC&E), organisers of the event, told The Gulf Today that unlike previous years, Getex Spring 2011 has more participation from UAE universities and higher education institutes focusing on post-graduation, professional development courses and occupational education such as nursing, aeronautics, hospitality and other non-academic courses.
All major UAE universities are present at the venue with top officials to explain visitors on their offers.
Altogether, 361 academic and non-academic institutions are participating in the event and 36 of them are from India, Godinho said.
The number of visitors on the opening day of Getex was overwhelming for the organisers as the first day witnessed 26 schools bringing their students to visit and see their future prospects at hand, he added. "The next days, being holidays, will have better participation from the public, especially parents," he said.
The event is showcasing up to 2,500 study options that is expected to attract more than 30,000 visitors in three days.
This edition of Getex features top UAE-based universities and academic institutions, including Ajman University of Science and Technology, Khalifa University, American University of Sharjah, Al Ghurair University, Canadian University in Dubai, BITS Pilani, University of Sharjah, Paris Sorbonne University, Heriot-Watt University, Middlesex University, Institute of Management, Two four 54, American University in the Emirates, American University in Dubai, Emirates Aviation College, Abu Dhabi University, Symbiosis International University, AI Hosn University, ICAEW, Hamdan Bin Mohammed e-University, University of Waterloo, The Petroleum Institute and University of Jazeera.
In order to serve the student community better, Getex will include three subject specific Excellence Forums on engineering, healthcare and medicine, and business & finance, specifically for final year graduating students and working professionals, he said.
