Their two feature races at Kranji on Sunday could have a real bearing on Royal Ascot in July.
The brilliant sprinter Rocket Man, the local champion who triumphed in Dubai in March, makes his third attempt at the six-furlong Krisflyer International Sprint, but his chances appeared to have been hindered this time by a bad draw, stall nine in a 10-runner field. It is certainly not impossible to win from there, but it will be a test even for a sprinter of his calibre.
Rocket Man, winner of 15 of his 19 starts, finished runner-up to the smart Sacred Kingdom in this race in 2009 and filled the same place last year behind Green Birdie. Veteran jockey Felix Coetzee, 52, who won on him in Dubai, is not worried about where he starts from, even with Green Birdie on his outside.
"I thought drawing the inside was a bit more of a concern. I didn't want one or two of them outside of me, forcing my hand early," he explained. Tactically, Coetzee will have to be at his best, but if connections have visions of their champion galloping up the straight, leading the pack home in the King's Stand Stakes at the Royal meeting, he must win.
Main dangers will be Sacred Kingdom, now the mount of Glen Boss, and Better Be The One, who finished third to J J The Jet Plane in the big five-furlong sprint in Dubai.
