Dubai's Capital Club hosts HBS Gulf Alumni Network event in association with Leadership Central

Capital Club Dubai, the region's premier private business club and a member of the ENSHAA group of companies hosted Lars Kroijer, author of 'Money Mavericks:Confessions of a Fund Manager' as a guest speaker for the Leadership Central event on Wednesday 17th February.
In line with his book, Kroijer's knowledge sharing session offered insights into the world of Hedge Funds to remove any misconceptions and to satisfy the curiosities of his listeners. Kroijer spoke candidly about his experiences of running a Hedge Fund; of 'feeling like a rock star' at times, and enduring 'months and months of being knocked down' during others.
'There is no hiding, 'said Kroijer, 'the first thing that someone says after "Hello", is, "How much money are you managing?"'.
Such assumptions of wealth and similarly brash clichés associated with Hedge Funds prompted Kroijer to write his book. 'One of the reasons I wrote "Money Mavericks: Confessions of a Fund Manager" was that I was annoyed by the portrayal of the Finance industry. People might not find the book full of exciting parties but I have been honest with the accounts of my experiences'.
When asked if recommended Fund Management as a career, Kroijer responded, 'For the right type of person, absolutely'.
Kroijer's presentation at Capital Club is an excellent example of Leadership Central's objectives; the organization was born out of necessity according to founder Tariq Qureishy, to provide a platform for different networks of international and regional leaders and professionals, and to provide the opportunity to listen edgy and boundary pushing discussions.
Leadership Central's network includes Capital Club's network of 1,500 members, as well as Harvard Business School Alumni Association, Intel Capital's network of Entrepreneurs and other Corporations and Leadership Associations.
