Top officials from organisers Dubai Sports Council (DSC) have predicted the start of a new era for clubs in Dubai following the successful staging of the 1st Dubai International Football Academies Forum here earlier this week.
"As the sport body in the emirate we were required to take the initiative of floating this unique concept to assist our clubs following recommendations made at the annual Dubai International Conference.
"Now it is the responsibility of the clubs to ensure the implementations of the ideas and recommendations to be laid down by the working committee," Dr Ahmad Sa'ad Al Sharif, Secretary- General, DSC, told Gulf News at the end of the forum on Sunday.
One goal
"The idea is to have all the clubs working together towards one goal. We don't want to copy any academy, but get our clubs to create something of their own," Dr. Sharif added.
Entrusted with the task of putting the entire two-day programme together, Ali Omar Al Baloushi, Acting Director, Club and Sport Performance, DSC, saw a bright future ahead for the younger generation at the club level.
"We have set the ball rolling by organising this forum. It is now up to the clubs to further deliberate and come up with the recommendations needed to eventually set up academies that are sustainable and smart," said Al Baloushi.
Footballing minds
"This concept is not just new, but it is also more of a ground-breaking event for this part of the world as our clubs aim to install academies of the highest standards by learning from a varied group of footballing minds from across the globe," he added.
As per the set deadline, the conclusion of the forum will now see the setting up of a working committee and sub-committees consisting of representatives from all five Dubai clubs to arrive at the best model to ensure growth of future stars here.
The sub-committees will deal with the technical, logistical, administrative, financial and policy aspects of the actual setting up academies at all five clubs.
Single entity
"The clubs now need to work together as one single entity so that we take the next logical step in the upgrading of the sport," Al Baloushi said.
The various sub-committees will have to take up their work on a war footing with their reports scheduled to come in before the authorities latest by August, well before the official visit of the AFC review team in October.
The forum was a pioneering initiative aimed at enhancing football academies and boosting the system of professionalism in football.
