Dubai Media City celebrates its 10th anniversary
  22 April 2011

Dubai Media City (DMC), member of TECOM Investments' Media Cluster, celebrated its 10th anniversary on Thursday afternoon with cake cutting and a series of entertainment activities.

Present on the occasion were Jamal Al Sharif, managing director of Dubai Media City and Dubai Studio City, Mohammad Abdullah, managing director of Media Cluster, TECOM, other business partners and key stakeholders.

Dubai Drums brightened up the event with a drumming session while jazz players treated attendees to a soothing performance. Characters from popular animation Freej and Shabiyat Al, both created by DMC's business partners, made an appearance to add to the lively ambience, while DMC photo souvenirs were distributed by Foto Pad.

"We have grown a lot over the years. When we first started in 2001, we had about 100 companies. Now we have around 1,400 companies and have integrated more ‘cities' as we now have Dubai Studio City and the International Media Production Zone (IMPZ). We can see the growth through these examples," said Abdullah.

Dubai Media City had bagged the Newsweek Award of Excellence in 2009 for its contribution to the media industry where it successfully set up an exclusive environment for media. It also received the first rank under ‘Best Promotion' and second rank in the ‘Best Incentives' categories globally and in the Middle East by fDi (Foreign Direct Investment) magazine's 2010 annual report on global free zones.

The business park has set itself as an inspiration for other media free zones throughout GCC countries and Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

"Dubai Media City is more than just a space for media. We are looking to double what we have done and are here to actively support media in terms of regulations, initiatives and involvement on a regional and international scale, adding to a media ecosystem," he said.
