Dubai
Industrial City to establish 'Maqayees' Dubai Centre for Industrial
Standards
The Dubai Industrial City has announced
that it will establish 'Maqayees' Dubai Centre for Industrial Standards,
which will set the operational performance standards for industries
and related institutions operating
from the city.
Our vision is to create a globally recognised
and comprehensive Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE)
standard of industrial excellence in the emirate and the country.
Successful tenants will be accorded the Dubai Quality Mark™
(DQM).,' said Khalid Al Malik, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai
Industrial City.
He pointed out that though the country
has a manufacturing base, through the Dubai Industrial City, a conscious
effort is being made to expand, extend and give depth to manufacturing
and related industries.
'For such efforts to bear rich fruits,
it is necessary to establish world-class operating standards in
all aspects of QHSE so that our tenants have a global competitive
edge,' Al Malik said.
He also pointed out that with an international
standard QHSE regulation, the region would benefit as Dubai Industrial
City would set up a benchmark for the region.
Al Malik said that Dubai Industrial
City has recognised the importance of QHSE wellbeing and the social
impact associated with such issues. 'The City has, therefore, embarked
on a programme to establish Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental
performance standards that all industrial units that operate their
facilities within the City would be expected to achieve and maintain
at all times.
With this core objective to establish
and maintain an industrial environment that would facilitate manufacturing
in a controlled manner, Dubai Industrial City has launched 'Maqayees'
Dubai Centre for Industrial Standards, a dedicated industrial standards
control and enforcement body that has been vested with the mandate
of Develop and maintain industrial standards and provide access
to the best industrial practices and international standards to
industries operating within Dubai Industrial City
Al Malik said one of Dubai Industrial
City's strategic objectives is to research, develop, implement,
monitor, measure and continuously improve the QHSE expectations
to match the global standards of industrial QHSE excellence.
'Dubai Quality Mark™ (DQM) will
eventually be the industrial QHSE excellence model that the organisations
would be expected to live with. To meet this objective all prospective
tenants that wish to develop a facility will be screened in terms
of their top management commitment towards QHSE practices and compliance
to local and federal laws issued from time to time,' he said.
'As a policy, Dubai Industrial City
will not issue a no-objection certificate to its tenants unless
all requirements of QHSE, Master Planning including a detailed Environmental
Impact Assessment is submitted to the satisfaction of Dubai Industrial
City and other authorities in the Emirate of Dubai,' Al Malik pointed
out.
'Maqayees' Dubai Centre for Industrial
Standards will embark on branding the Dubai Quality Mark™
as an integral standard encompassing and broadening the requirements
of various international management system standards like ISO 9000,
ISO 14000, ISO 18000 and HACCP complemented with a risk assessment
and rating model.
'The long-term objective would be to
seek regional and international accreditation of DQM and create
a value proposition to the products manufactured and distributed
from the industrial units within Dubai Industrial City,' said the
CEO.
