Outstanding achievers in education were bestowed with the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Distinguished Academic Performance on Tuesday evening.
In a glittering ceremony, 208 winners — including students, educators and researchers — were honoured by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance. Dubai won the maximum number of awards.
His Highness Shaikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, was named the distinguished personality for his contribution to education.
The Hamdan Award was instituted 13 years ago to promote the cause of education in the country and recognise excellence in the field.
Innovators
The award categories include distinguished students, teachers, social workers, projects, scientific innovation, educational research, school, and school administration.
The event was also attended by Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami, Minister of Education.
The maximum number of winners in the distinguished student category was from Dubai with 47 students winning the award. Dubai also won the distinguished social worker prize.
The award received 93 entries in all categories from Dubai alone, constituting 27 per cent of the total entries from all educational districts, a 12 per cent increase over the year before.
Dubai won two from among seven prizes in the distinguished teacher category, while a Dubai school clinched the prize in the distinguished school administration category from among three winners representing educational districts in the country.
Outstanding
Fatima Al Merri, Chief Executive of the Dubai School Agency under the Knowledge and Human Development Authority in Dubai (KHDA), said that Dubai's outstanding performance in the award is reflection of the culture of excellence practised in all aspects of education systems.
She stressed the importance of cultivating the culture of excellence in younger generations as the only means of enhancing the quality of education and improving the performance of schools.
