The UAE has been promoted in one of Asia’s largest travel fairs with a turnout of more than 110,000 prospective visitors.
The Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways and Dubai's Emirates Airline participated in the Japan Association of Travel Agents’ (Jata) World Tourism Congress and Travel Fair in Tokyo, between September 17 and 20.
The UAE stands highlighted the country as a world-class leisure and business destination.
"Now is the time to travel to Dubai" was the theme of DTCM’s stand, which also organised debates and meetings with industry experts as part of an extensive campaign to promote the emirate as a top leisure destination with affordable prices.
Recent Dubai figures show that tourism and hotel industries directly contribute 19 per cent to the emirate's GDP, while their indirect contribution to GDP stood at 32 per cent in 2008.
UAE Ambassador to Japan Saeed Ali Al Nuwais hailed the UAE participation at the event and efforts to bolster the relationship with Japan.
He said new airline services from both Abu Dhabi and Dubai to Narita, Tokyo, to be launched early next year, would have a positive economic, social and cultural effect on the relationship between the two countries.
The Jata World Travel Fair also showcased other Arab countries such as Syria, Qatar, Tunisia and Egypt and is hoped to stimulate Japanese travel demand and launch new travel trends.
