More than hundred associates of the Dubai Marriott properties (JW Marriott Dubai, Renaissance Dubai Hotel, Marriott Executive Apartments and Courtyard by Marriott Green Community) joined the Clean up the World Campaign at the Dubai Investment Park in honor of the Environmental Awareness Month.
Additionally 100 associates planted 100 trees for a better and greener future. Throughout April, more than 150,000 Marriott associates at 2,800 hotels worldwide are engaging in activities to celebrate and communicate their environmental commitment.
Last month, Marriott announced plans to partner with the Australian-based volunteer organization 'Clean up the World' as it celebrates its second-annual dedication to Environmental Awareness Month. From New York to Hong Kong, Marriott associates will be participating in a variety of environmental projects from cleaning up beaches, rivers and parks to restoring natural habitats and planting trees in an effort to promote eco-friendly practices at home, at work and at play.
Marriott's commitment to the environment is longstanding. Over a decade ago, Marriott launched ECHO - Environmentally Conscious Hotel Operations - to focus on water and energy conservation, clean air, waste management and wildlife preservation. Recently, Marriott reported that the company is on track to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by nearly one-fifth over a ten year period from 2000 to 2010 - approaching one million tons of climate warming gases, or the equivalent of taking nearly 140,000 cars off the roads*. Marriott is a founding member of the Tourism Partnership, a UK-based global industry group promoting responsible and environmentally conscious tourism, and a sponsor of Green Hotelier magazine.
