SI’s daughter plotted Dubai family’s killing |

HYDERABAD: The murders of Dubai-based Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Engineer, K Laxmi Vara Prasad, and his family at RAK Royal Lodge were plotted and executed by his niece and her husband.
The motive: The accused wanted to avoid repayment of money running into several lakhs following huge investments by Prasad in a life insurance policy.
Sleuths of Task Force and Central Crime Station (CCS) on Wednesday cracked the mystery behind the multiple murders and arrested four persons including the daughter of a sub-inspector of police working in Visakhapatnam.
Police, however, are yet to ascertain the amount misappropriated by the accused in the name of investing in policies. One of the accused is the daughter of a police sub-inspector of police, Nagaraju, working in Visakhapatnam and his involvement is also being probed.
Prasad, his wife, Vijayalaxmi and their children, Ketan and Kavitha, were found murdered in two separate rooms of the lodge opposite Secunderabad railway station on August 21. The accused — K Madhavi Devi alias Madhu (Prasad’s niece and the SI’s daughter),her husband John Abraham and his two friends, Kranthi Kiran Rathod and K Pradeep Kumar. Rathod, a BBA student, and Pradeep Kumar stay in Visakhapatnam.
Disclosing details at a press conference on Wednesday, Additional Commissioner of Police (crimes) K Narasimha Reddy said that Prasad invested huge money with Madhavi who was an insurance agent in ICICI Bank at Visakhapatnam.
“Madhavi advised Prasad to take a Life Time policy for 10 years. He was supposed to pay Rs 20,000 per month for 10 years. Madhavi also lured Prasad with benefits in investing other policies. As Madhavi was a close relative, Prasad trusted her and sent money for investment,” Narasimha Reddy said.
Prasad estimated that he would get Rs 80 lakh even if he withdrew from the policy prematurely. Prasad, however, came to know that Madhavi had misappropriated the money and insisted that she return the amount.
Madhavi and her husband John Abraham then decided to eliminate Prasad. John Abraham lured two of his friends, Kranthi Kiran Rathod and Pradeep Kumar, to join them in executing the crime by offering them a Maruti Gypsy and a two-wheeler respectively.
They planned the murder for 20 days. Pradeep managed to get 100 ml of ethyl alcohol from his college laboratory.
The four reached Hyderabad on August 20 and checked into Sitara lodge. Prasad also reached the city from his native place, Razole, on the same day and checked into Park Lane Hotel at Secunderabad.
Meanwhile, John booked three rooms in RAK Lodge on Prasad’s name. Madhavi and John persuaded Prasad to shift to RAK Lodge saying a cheque of Rs 80 lakh would be handed over to him by a representative of the ICICI Bank.
As per the plan, John purchased some liquor and asked Kranthi to come to the room as the representative of ICICI Bank.
At the lodge, Pradeep and John consumed liquor in Room No 205 along with Prasad. After Prasad consumed three pegs, John mixed ethyl alcohol in his liquor. Later, Kranthi joined them and was introduced as an ICICI employee and a cheque was handed over to Prasad.
At 11.30 pm when Prasad was about to leave for the airport, John strangled him to death with a chunni.
The trio later went to Room No.
201 and killed Vijaya Lakshmi and the two children.
John stole the gold ornaments weighing 25 tola from the family, three mobile phones, two Ipods, digital camera, Rs 50,000, credit cards and other documents from the bags and suitcases of Prasad,” Narasimha Reddy said.
The four later took a taxi to Vijayawada and from there travelled in a train to Visakhapatnam when they were picked up.
