Several airline officials in Dubai have confirmed that flights have been fully booked for the coming weeks due to travellers wishing to visit the Dubai Shopping Festival.
Christmas and New Year are usually a peak season with airlines, and this year the coinciding of Eid Al Adha with New Year and DSF has only added to the rush. This occurrence has caused a huge demand for more flights, officials said.
"Flight bookings on Kuwait Airways have reached a phenomenal 100 per cent during this festive season due to Kuwaitis either flying into Dubai or flying out," said Ameen Ahmad of Kuwait Airways' sales department.
He also said all flights from Kuwait to Dubai and from Dubai to various key destinations, have been fully booked for the previous three months and will continue to be so until the January 8.
An official from Emirates said he expected a rise of 40 per cent in sales during the current festive period and DSF.
Fully booked
Another official at Egypt Airlines said there was a 5 per cent increase in passengers flying to Cairo from Dubai during the immediate period before Eid Al Adha and that all flights to Dubai during the whole month of January remain fully booked.
A senior official at Saudi Airlines said the airline had a very good season during the last edition of DSF in 2005 and that due to the huge demand at the time, 20 aircraft had to be rented in addition to the regular flights. This trend is likely to continue and increase during this year's DSF, he added. |
