Mumbai A 49-year-old passenger, onboard a Jet Airways Mumbai-Dubai flight, died shortly before the aircraft took off from Mumbai airport on Wednesday morning.
“Jet Airways flight 9W 542 pushed back from the bay at 8.21 am. While taxing towards runway, medical emergency occurred on board at 8.50 am,” said a spokesperson from the Mumbai airport while confirming the incident.
Airport officials said that Ayyankol Abdul Rehiman Abdullah collapsed inside the aircraft as soon as the aircraft started taxing towards the main runway. Soon after he collapsed, the aircraft returned to its parking bay where airport doctors rushed to check him. “He was unconscious when MIAL doctors attended him,” said the spokesperson.
“His pupil was dilated and was not reacting to light. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) —an emergency medical procedure administered to a victim suffering cardiac arrest or similar respiratory arrest — was then administered on the passenger along with an adrenalin injection. He was also given three shocks by the defibrillator,” spokesperson added. The passenger was eventually declared dead at 9.12 am and his body was handed over to the Sahar police station around 9.40.
The flight 9W 542 eventually departed at 1040 hrs.
