Middle East art inspires new Nokia fashion range
  9/9/2006 9:21:28 AM

Duba: Nokia chose Dubai as the locale and the region's arts and natural beauty as the inspiration for its world launch of four new phones.

Three fashion-oriented phones inscribed with Arabic-style designs joined its L'Amour fashion collection, while the Nokia 8800 product line added to it the new 8800 Sirocco. Among the style-oriented phones is the 7390, Nokia's first 3G fashion phone.

The global launch, which took place this week in Dubai, is the first time Nokia released a line of new handsets from its Middle East and Africa region. Timo Toikkanen, senior vice-president of customer and market operations, Nokia Middle East and Africa, said the landscapes and the graphic art of the Middle East and Africa served as Nokia's muse during the design stage. The new Sirocco handset is named after the wind that blows off the Sahara and features ringtones created by ambient musical artist Brian Eno.

The company described the Middle Eastern designs as ranging from tribal art and ethnic decoration with accents inspired by metal, leather and transparent surfaces.

A first

"This is also the first time that design influences from the Middle East and Africa will feature in Nokia products that will be enjoyed around the world," Toikkanen said.

Tomi Paatsila, regional vice-president mobile phones sales and market operations, said, "We believe that these handsets will appeal to consumers who appreciate design, attention to detail and require a handset that reflects the latest in style."
