WHEN you think of Gaelic Games Dubai isn't really the first place that springs to mind.
But that's where Eoghan Rua's talented Camogie team are jetting off to in their latest bid to bring some silverware back to the North Coast.
The girls head off next Monday to take part in the annual Gulf Gaelic Games, which sees teams from all over the world make their way to Dubai as their coach Joe Passmore explained.
"There are quite a few ex-pats out in the Gulf and they have set up Gaelic clubs.
"And every January they hold this tournament.
"A few of our girls know ones who took part in it last year and they jumped at the chance to go.
"They work hard all year so this ia nice distraction for them - but they are still going there to win.
"It would be nice to come home as World Champions, but we are going out there to put Owen Roe on the map and hopefully make new friends and have a bit of 'craic'."
The hard work of pre-season has just begun for the Owen Roe with the girls braving the freezing temperatures on the Triangle, which is something they won't have to worry about in the Middle East.
"Yeah it'll be a bit different over there," said Joe.
"I think it's about 24 degrees out there at the minute which is like a really hotsummer's day for us.
"So it'll be tough for the girls as the games are only seven-a-side, but the girls are very fit and the heat will affect everyone."
Joe was also quick to pay tribute to the commitment the girls have shown to the Eoghan Rua cause.
"Over the last few seasons the mens teams have done very well and had a lot of success, but the girls deserve their time in the spotlight too," said Joe.
"They have put so much hard work and commitment into training throughout the season.
"And they are just about to start again and they have no qualms about training in any weather.
"They are a very talented bunch finishing in the top third of the table in their first season in the Senior League after previously having won the Intermediate Championship and Shield.
"And they deserve a lot of credit for funding this trip all on they own as they didn't want it to effect the club's fundraising efforts for the ground development.
"Hopefully though the other clubs we meet in Dubai will support
