  Flint-stone yells Yabba Dubai Doo!
  09.09.2009

ASHES hero Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff is moving to Dubai as he recovers from a career-threatening knee injury.

The England cricket ace is renting a luxury apartment in the desert kingdom for himself, wife Rachael and their kids Holly, five, Corey, three, and one-year-old Rocky.

All-rounder Freddie, 31, reckons a long family holiday in the sunshine will be the perfect tonic as he bids to get himself fit enough for a comeback next year.

The Lancashire star, nicknamed after Fred Flintstone, said: "It's always easier doing rehab in warm weather. That's the main reason we've decided on Dubai.

"When I was recovering from an ankle operation we went to Florida as a family and it worked really well. This is similar.

"I can't drive for at least six weeks, so it would be difficult to get around if I stayed in England.

"In Dubai, all I have to do is push a button in a lift to get from our apartment to the gym. Everything I need is on the doorstep.

"It's also a chance to enjoy a break as a family. It's been a hard summer and we'll all benefit from a few weeks in the sun."

Freddie battled through the pain barrier to play a key role in our 2-1 Ashes victory over the Aussies. He had surgery on his dodgy knee straight afterwards, then last week he spent a night in hospital after developing a blood clot in his leg.

He will spend the next month on crutches before launching into a gruelling rehab programme.

Fred has now quit Test cricket but aims to carry on in England's one-day and Twenty20 sides.

He is also looking to tie up some big-money property deals.

The sporting idol bought a property from Man City boss Mark Hughes for £1.85million, knocked it down and built a six-bed mansion now worth £5million.

The Cheshire home is now for sale or rent. Fred's other house is also on the market at £1.75million.
