  Emirates World Humanitarian Mobile Hospital conducts surgeries in South Sudan

  Emirates World Humanitarian Mobile Hospital continues its humanitarian medical programme to treat the needy patients in South Sudan under supervision of elite of international specialist doctors from world's major teaching hospitals and in partnership with the Sudanese Ministry of Health.

Chief Executive of the Zayed Charity Initiative and Executive Director of Emirates World Humanitarian Hospital, Dr Adel Al Shamri, said that hundreds of patients of different age groups have been diagnosed and treated by the medical team in South Sudan.

He added that the mobile hospital has scored fruitful results as local people continue to pour unexpectedly with their children into the emergency unit and specialised clinics.

Dr Ahmed Al Sayyed Mohammed Abu Zeid, assistant lecturer of surgical emergency, University of Suez Canal, who is in charge of surgery with Emirates World Humanitarian Mobile Hospital, currently operating in Juba, South Sudan, told Emirates News Agency (WAM) Friday that the medical team has so far successfully conducted a number of surgeries in coordination with Juba Teaching Hospital.

"We are cooperating and training doctors here so that they continue the work when we leave. We conduct surgeries in their presence and help them to conduct surgeries too", he added.

Dr Abu Zeid noted that four successful surgeries have been so far conducted: recurrent inguinal hernia, lipoma left shoulder, lipoma scalp and irreducible inguinal hernia, adding that breast mass, thyroid swelling and chronic calcular cholecystitis operations will be conducted soon.

In related development, Emirates World Humanitarian Mobile Hospital has embarked on dispatching specialised medical teams to remote areas in coordination with the Ministry of Health in South Sudan to provide curative, preventive and medical awareness services to the needy patients, particularly children and elderly people under supervision of joint UAE-Sudanese-International team, including medical, nursing, technical and administrative cadres.

The Emirates mobile hospital, the first mobile civilian hospital in the world, is currently providing its medical services to the needy categories in South Sudan in the first phase to be followed by Morocco and Lebanon respectively. Equipped with elite of specialist doctors and medical technicians, the strategic plan of the mobile hospital will extend for three years in which the medical services will be served four months in each country. 32 Emirati doctors and 16 Emirati nurses will take part in the medical programme, as well as similar number from friendly and hosting countries.

The mobile hospital is a success model of partnership among public institutions, private corporations and non profitable organisations to implant culture of charity and provide world class medical services.

The mobile hospital is one of the pioneer projects being implemented as per instructions of His Highness President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and follow up of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Representative of Ruler in Western Region and Chairman of the Red Crescent Authority.
