Dubai based Lama Desert Tours & Cruises (L.L.C) a major inbound tour operator is getting active in the mini-metro cities of India by appointing Sales Managers dedicated to each city. Currently, the company has strong penetration in metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. Through sales representatives, it is increasing the brand awareness of Lama Desert Tours & Cruises in other metros like Kolkata and Chennai and mini-metros like Pune, Ahmedabad, Kochi, etc. The decision to appoint dedicated Sales Managers is aimed at increasing the market share of the company in Indian outbound, which it claims is pegged at 44 per cent and to become one of the top inbound tour operators for Dubai in the Indian market.

The company, which works closely with the Indian travel trade, is also working with Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) to introduce 'Xtreme Desert Safari' in Thar Desert of Rajasthan. To be introduced within a month, this type of desert safari will be first of its kind in India. A popular adventure activity in North Africa and Dubai, power machines like 4x4 trucks and All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) will be used for the adventure sport. Land near Kuldhara village in the desert district has been allotted to Lama Desert Tours & Cruises where construction of a resort, which will act as a base camp for the 'Xtreme Desert Safari,' is underway.

Talking about the plans for Indian market, Kulwant Singh, Managing Partner, Lama Group of Companies said, “We plan to penetrate the mini metro cities of India showing potential market share. We have deputed Sales Managers dedicated to each city to provide business support and personal touch to service requirements of agents and travellers. Subsequently, we continue to provide best possible deals in the market through the dedicated sales team.”

Adding further, Singh said, “Indian market is one of the biggest in terms of tourist potential for Dubai. According to Dubai DTCM (Department of Tourism Commerce Marketing) figures, Dubai hotels registered 20 per cent increase in Indian guests in 2008 compared to 2007 and more than four million Indians travelled through Dubai International Airport last year.” Lama Tours is the official ground handler for the forthcoming annual Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) Convention scheduled to take place in Dubai from September 29 – October 1, 2009. Singh said, “We have coordinated all the logistical requirements of the Convention right from accommodation, visas, airport transfers, hotel – convention centre transfers, etc and arranging meetings for Indian trade who are keen to do business with hotels and establishments in Dubai.
