Autodrome host 24-hour race
DUBAI ? The Dubai Autodrome
is hosting the first 24-hour race in the Middle East on its 5.39
km FIA certified track. Almost 70 cars are participating in the
race. Based on well known street cars, they are easy recognisable
for the public. The field consists of many different marques such
as Alfa Romeo, Porsche, BMW, SEAT, Renault, Honda, Ford, Subaru
and Mazda.
The free practice started on Wednesday
with a night session while qualifying took place on yesterday morning.
The qualifying session lasted 90 minutes and it became clear that
Duller Motorsport are the favourites for the overall win in the
first Dubai 24h-race. The team entered two BMW E46 GTR for the race
and both cars did very well and qualified on the front row of the
starting grid.
The second row is occupied by an all
Porsche GT3 line-up with Swedish Hubert Bergh Motorsport in third
ahead of the Lammertink Team. The BMW?s and Porches?s will battle
for the win as they the top five rows in qualifying.
Schubert Motors 2 BMW E46 320i may cause an upset as they recorded
the third fastest time in the night practice session on Wednesday
but could only manage ninth position in qualifying. The diesel class
is headed by the German 2.4 Alfa 147 of Altenburger Destillerie.
Though the Alfa is running in its own above 2000cc D2-diesel class.
In the 1600cc category ?D1-diesel class? Schubert 120d qualified
a staggering eight seconds ahead of the next car in class, the Altenburger
Alfa GT and Maxicars Seat Leon Tdi. |
