Bayanihan to perform at Dubai World Shopping Festival |

The Dubai Shopping Festival is an annual shopping, entertainment and cultural extravaganza that aims to promote tourism in Dubai and draw people from all over the world. During the month-long festival, various activities go on throughout Dubai with the global village as the main focus. Here the international community get together to showcase their cultural heritage including the display of handicrafts, music, dance and clothing.
Since its inception in 1996 as a purely retail event, the festival has been a tremendous success earning for Dubai the title the "Shopping Capital of the Middle East".
Immediately after, they will fly to Abu Dhabi upon the invitation of the Filipino diplomatic community. They will then perform in Italy as guest performers at Agricento where they won the Golden Temple Award.
Meanwhile, the members of the Bayanihan, the national dance company of the Philippines, were warmly welcomed by founder Dr. Helena Z. Benitez on their arrival from a successful threemonth tour of the US and Canada under the auspices of Columbia Artists New York.
The dance company also performed in Hawaii as part of the Filipino centennial celebration. The celebration commemorated the arrival of 15 Filipinos on board the SS Doric 100 years ago in Hawaii.
They recently performed for Manila residents on the invitation of Manila Mayor Lito Atienza who tendered a dinner for them as the dance company celebrates its golden anniversary. |
