The Dubai Food Festival, an event at Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) 2009 will begin at UPTOWN Mirdiff complex on February 1, 2009. The two week event will see a host of culinary activities and cuisines from around the world through the participation of over 20 restaurants from across Dubai.

This year, the food festival will bring out the essence of a market place as more stalls join the square. Fresh and local produce will be on offer, from ice cream to fruits and coffee, in addition to food markets, cookery workshops and tasting sessions. Yousif Mubarak, COO, DSF Office said, “Dubai Food Festival is a celebration of cuisines and the different resident cultures in Dubai. Food is an element that brings people from various backgrounds together and this is very much in line with DSF’s ‘One World. One Family. One Festival.’ slogan.”

Participating restaurants will present cuisines including Sri Lankan, Filipino, Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Japanese, British, Egyptian, Lebanese, South Asian, French, and Emarati cuisine.

An attempt to break a world record on February 13, 2009 will take place at event; the festival, along with the ECG (Emirates Culinary Guild) will attempt to create the largest Dessert Buffet of 2009 different desserts. The endeavour will be part of DSF’s new initiative – Dubai Records.

Other activities include Sampling Sundays (February 1 and 8, 2009 from 5 pm to 7 pm), which provide visitors with the chance to sample a variety of cuisines for free; Buffet Tuesdays (February 3 and 10, 2009 from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm) provide a choice of 40 delicious delicacies for AED 40 only; live cooking tents; food market and a Demonstration Area, which is a marquee set up to host a rolling programme of cookery demonstrations between 6 pm and 10 pm everyday, along with some additional tastings.

This area will also host various competitions. A competition is aimed at young Chefs, who are keen to demonstrate their abilities. All ingredients will be provided and participants will have to prepare a dish from beginning to end.
