Double delight for Saudi Arabia at Dubai Arabian horse show
  4/6/2007 10:30:13 AM

Saudi Arabia swept two out of four championship titles on the final day of the Dubai International Arabian Horse Championships (DIAHC) as Ajman Stud won the prestigious Junior Filly category.

Robin K won the Senior Female (Mare) title while Marquis Cahr bagged the Junior Male colt division to supply Prince Khalid Bin Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud a grand double.

Ajman Stud won the Junior Filly (Female) title with their star filly Bess-Fa'izah, who was also the top of her category at the World Championships in Paris last December.

The final day's competition was watched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and Industry.

International level

Shaikh Mohammad announced that the prize money for the championship would be increased from $1.5million to $4million for next year's championship. He also assured his continuous support for the sport.

Shaikh Hamdan said he was happy with the way the event has grown and the recognition it has received at the international level.

The Dubai International Arabian Horse Championship is a competition for Purebred Arabian horses, showcasing their beauty, agility & heritage. It was run over three days culminating in the Championship classes for the most exquisite horses on Wednesday.

The championships were held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The prestigious Senior Male Stallion title was scooped up by Germany multiple world champion Al Lahab.

Al Lahab is a stallion with an distinguished head and is one of the most promising young stallions in the world. He has exquisite type and championship conformation. His fluid and airy movements saw him win the title at the 2006 World Championships in Paris. He is also the winner of the All Nations Cup.

Colt division

He is a former European Junior champion.

Al Lahab is owned by Inge and Hansjuergen Friedmann, straight Egyptian breeders in Germany. In his first two seasons of showing in Europe he won the prestigious World Asil Cup Junior Champion - twice (first as a yearling, then as a two-year-old), European Egyptian Event Junior Champion, and European Junior Champion.

Marquis Cahr is also an impressive winner on the international show circuit since 2005.

He has started the 2006 season by winning Championships in the colt division in Dubai and Sharjah and was undefeated.

Bess-Fa'izah was 2006 Champion Filly at Sharjah and 2006 Reserve Champion Filly in Dubai and Qatar. She also won the World Championship at Paris. All winners received prize money of $100,000 in addition to the Dubai Gold Cup trophy.

Shaikh Mohammad announced that the prize money for the championship would be increased from $1.5million to $4million for next year's championship. He also assured his continuous support for the sport.
