  DCCI receives a Ukrainian trade delegation

  The visit comes as a result of the DCCI's successful visit to Ukraine in the earlier this month which aimed at enhancing the economic and trade ties and opening new markets in Dubai and Ukraine.

In the Cabinet of Minister of Ukraine in Kiev, Al Mutaiwee, accompanied with Sultan Lootah, Acting Director of Business Promotion in the DCCI, met His Excellency Mykola Azarov, First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Sergie Pachkovsky, Chairman of the Ukraine-UAE Business Council and Director General of Ukraine Trade Center. Azarov showed interest to benefit from the UAE's unique economic experience in running free zones. He said Ukraine is trying to attract Arab investors from the UAE.

Azarov talked about Ukraine's best performance of aerospace industry which the government plans to develop through attracting foreign investments. Al Mutaiwee said the UAE is currently developing its aerospace industry and is interested to cooperate with Ukraine in this concern. He talked about the Jebel Ali City Airport, which is still under construction, stating that it will be one of the biggest airports in the world serving more than 120 million passengers a year.

Azarov plans to visit Dubai soon to discuss the procedures to organize the Ukraine-UAE Business Forum which aims at introducing the business community in Dubai to the economic potential of Ukraine and other joint ventures which could be established in both countries in ports infrastructure, cement industry, aerospace and telecommunications.

The DCCI's delegation also met S. Skrypchenko, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine (CCIU), along with H.E. Anatoliy Nalyvayko, Member of the Parliament of Ukraine, H.E. Heorgii Ilchenko, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to the UAE, and Ihor Huk, Official Consultant of European Commission in Austria.

Skrypchenko praised the bilateral ties and stressed the key role played by business councils in supporting these ties, as well as the importance of exchanging visits and signing agreements of cooperation between the two chambers.

'The CCIU provides more than 50 kinds of services, as it signed 84 agreements of cooperation and established 23 business councils with foreign partners. It also organized more than 260 trade exhibitions in Ukraine and 17 other fairs overseas,' he said stating the importance of the International Arbitration Court in Ukraine.

Al Mutaiwee also met Valentyna Samenyuk, Head of the State Property Fund (SPF) of Ukraine, who talked about privatization and its importance in supporting investment projects and attracting local and foreign investments. Al Mutaiwee highlighted the need to benefit from the investment opportunities available in Ukraine.

Al Mutaiwee received on Tuesday at his office in the DCCI premises in Dubai, Sergoy Pachkovsky, Chairman of the Ukraine-UAE Business Council and Director General of Ukraine Trade Center, accompanied with Dr. Sergiy Pasko, Counsellor at the Embassy of Ukraine in the UAE. Sultan Lootah, Acting Director of Business Promotion in the DCCI, also attended.

Pachkovsky showed the interest of the Ukrainian economic sectors to develop its ties with its counterparts in Dubai, and said that the Ukraine-UAE Business Councils is planning to organize an economic forum in Dubai to be attended by top economic figures from both countries and a number of ministers and top companies representatives from Ukraine.

The DCCI's director general suggested that the forum is held next year where more businessmen and top economists from Dubai would be able to attend and effectively participate in the forum. Al Mutaiwee asked the Ukrainians to provide the DCCI with the final number of attendees and time of the forum, stressing the importance of approaching and inviting government officials. He also suggested the Ukrainians to hold a trade exhibition as a side activity of the forum and to hire a well-known technical organizer to ensure the forum is a success.

Dubai's total non-oil trade with Ukraine in 2004 reached AED 746.3 million, as the value of Dubai's imports from Ukraine in the same year reached AED 557 million, whereas Dubai's exports to Ukraine in 2004 was 18.3 million, and Dubai's re-exports to Ukraine in the same year hit AED 171 million.
