  Badal invites Dubai based construction companies to undertake low cost housing projects in Punjab

  DUBAI: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, asked the Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC) and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) to jointly explore the possibilities of developmental initiates in the infrastructure, education, low cost housing for economically weaker sections of society, hospitality and realty sectors in Punjab.

Taking part in the deliberations with the members of IBPC-Dubai at a business conclave organized at the initiative of Chairman, CII Punjab State Council Gunbir Singh here this morning, Badal asked the prospective entrepreneurs for business tie-ups in social sector projects like low cost housing and potable drinking water in the rural areas.

He also impressed upon the Dubai based construction companies and eminent builders to construct low cost housing colonies in Punjab for the economically weaker sections of the society and assured that the requisite land for this would be provided by the village panchayats.

Likewise, he also emphasized on the need to participate in the state government’s ambitious plan to set up Adarsh Schools in the state.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by his Media Advisor Harcharn Bains, Secretary Science Technology and Environment Viswajit Khanna, his Special Secretary K.J.S Cheema besides, Consulate General of India in Dubai A Rajamony also attended the conclave.

Giving the details of the meeting, Chief Minister’s Media Adviser Harcharan Bains said that the IBPC is the only representative organization of Indian businessman and professionals recognized by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI).

Badal underscored the need to set up infrastructure ventures in collaboration to give a face lift to the existing infrastructure in the state.

Badal virtually conquered the hearts of the people of Dubai and their businessmen at IBPC’s conclave by using his characteristic open heartedness with a mixture of traditional Bathinda humour and brought the roof down with laughter.

Appreciating the marvels of infrastructure engineering in Dubai, Badal asked the IBPC to encourage the Dubai based prospective investors and entrepreneurs to make huge investments in Punjab which was being emerged as the most preferred investment destination in the world especially in the wake of recently announced new investor friendly industrial policy.

He assured of full support and cooperation to the interested investors to facilitate them of fast track single window clearances for setting up their ventures in a time bound manner.

The Chief Minister in unequivocal terms said, “The role of Punjab Government is merely of a facilitator to enable the prospective investors to set up their ventures in the state free of any hardships generally caused due to inordinate delay in projects due to red-tapeism and bureaucratic wrangling”.

Badal also mentioned that the recent survey by the leading media house IBN-CNN has ranked Punjab as the number one state in business climate. Steps were a foot to make Punjab as a power surplus state by 2011.

He said Punjab had a tremendous potential in rural markets and sought cooperation from NRIs in the areas of agriculture, water management, new technologies, ideas and innovations to set Punjab on the highest trajectory of growth. He complemented the role of CII for this successful mission to woo investors to make investments in Punjab as Dubai was the largest trading partner in India.

Speaking on the occasion Chairman, CII Punjab State Council invited the IBPC to participate in agro-tech in 2010 and stressed on the need of cultural exchanges and technological transfers. He also dwelled upon the areas of collaboration in tourism, agriculture, Information technology, Information and Education. He also highlighted the role of CII for bringing in linkages and collaborations to usher in new business opportunities both in Punjab and Dubai.

In his address, Consulate General of India in Dubai A Rajamony underlined the need and scope to develop business tie ups in the areas of Agriculture, small and medium enterprises, infrastructure and entrepreneurship.

Earlier, the President IBPC Paras Shehzadpuri referred to the areas of collaboration in technology transfer, exchange of expertise, training & education tie ups and investments in Public Private Partnership (PPP mode) IBPC for investments. He said the mission of IBPC was to strengthen cooperation and develop business relationships between UAE businessman and the Indian business and professional community.
