These activities come in line with the authority's corporate social responsibility to create awareness among school students especially now since the holiday season is in. The awareness campaigns are conducted in clubs, summer centers and other associations through lectures, puppet shows, competitions etc.
Engineer Bader Al Siri, Director of Traffic Department in Traffic and Road Agency said, "Traffic awareness campaigns and programs help educate youngsters about traffic rules and general safety measures. These camps have a positive impact on parents as they make traffic safety as one of their primary responsibility."
Khawlah Kaitob and Amal Tareq Ali from Traffic Awareness Section in the Traffic Department, conducted lectures on safety which focused on topics like rules to be observed on the school bus. As a measure of safety kids less than 10 years were asked to refrain from occupying the front seats on the bus and kids less than three years of age were asked to occupy special seats at the back.
Khawlah Al Kaitob said, "To generate interest and build awareness amongst the children, puppets and cartoon characters were used. We focused on the importance of using seatbelts, adopting safety postures while being seated on the school bus or any vehicle and as well as advised them on pedestrian crossing."
Kids less than ten years of age were asked to be accompanied by adults and were directed to cycle in allocated areas like parks, sport clubs, bicycle pavements or at home, with safety gear which involves the use of helmets, knee pads, elbow caps, and reflective clothing(if possible).
