Dubai eGovernment has announced the first group of winners of the Modhesh website creation competition organised as part of Dubai Summer Surprises, 2006. The first place went to 12 year-old Mariam Ehsan who was presented with an HP laptop, the second place winner was 15 year-old Kumayl Hunaid who was awarded an HP printer, and the third place was bagged by 11- year-old Tariq Alami who won an HP digital camera.

The Modhesh Websites Competition requires participants between 10 and 16 years of age, to register at www.emodhesh.ae within a stipulated time. Participants will be given a link to a URL domain to upload all their HTML files, necessary to create the site. Every week, a judging panel will evaluate the websites and the Best Surprise Website will be awarded laptops, printers and digital cameras sponsored by HP.

The competition is still open for new participants who are encouraged to sign-up, after logging into the site. It is open to children who are citizens or residents of the UAE, or are visitors to Dubai. The website should contain a maximum of 10 pages and a minimum of 5 pages, and should not exceed 20 MB in size. The website can be created in Arabic, English or both.

“The website creation competition serves as an ideal platform for children to exhibit their creativity and talent in web designing. The quality of entries we received this year goes to show that today’s young generation is extremely technology savvy, imaginative and talented. Dubai eGovernment is keen on spreading awareness about the benefits of electronic services among children and other sections of the society by undertaking a series of initiatives in this regard,” said Abdul Nasser Ahli, DSS Coordinator at Dubai eGovernment.

Kumayl Hunaid, the second place winner of the website design competition said, “I am really thrilled to be one of the winners of this contest. I designed the whole website by myself and it feels great to know that my work has been appreciated. This prize has inspired me to seriously think of building my career in the field of web designing.”

Samra Bukhari, a fan says, “eModhesh.ae is really fabulous. I tried so hard to think about any thing to suggest that might be missing on the site. But to my amazement I didn’t find a single thing that is not provided to the users on the website. The colours, fonts and graphics are really fantastic. All in all, emodhesh.ae really rocks.”

In addition to the Modhesh Websites Competition, Dubai eGovernment is organising three other major events that focus on technology and creativity - Modhesh Fun Educational Zone, Modhesh Friend’s Forum’ and Modhesh Digital Photo Competition. For details, see www.emodhesh.ae.
