Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) has appointed Bob Johnson, the former Chairman and CEO of Honeywell Aerospace, to the role of Chief Executive Officer.
DAE was established in Dubai in February 2006 and is building a US$15 billion global aerospace, manufacturing and services corporation. The group will grow through a series of phased developments to produce an integrated aerospace cluster, based at Dubai World Central – the 140 square kilometre new airport and logistics city being constructed in Jebel Ali, Dubai.
Johnson, 58, has held the position of Chairman of Honeywell Aerospace, the world's largest supplier of aircraft engines, equipment, systems and services for commercial transport, regional, general aviation and military aircraft, until his retirement at the beginning of this year. Prior to that role, he was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Honeywell Aerospace from 1999. Before joining Honeywell, he held senior roles across several companies operating within aerospace industry. He began his career at GE Aircraft Engines (GEAE) in 1969.
On taking up his role at DAE, Johnson’s immediate focus will be the launch of the DAE’s first four operational subsidiaries. They are DAE Capital, DAE Airports, DAE University and DAE Engineering.
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of DAE said: “The appointment of Bob Johnson as the CEO of DAE marks a significant milestone in our organisation’s development. He brings with him a wealth of experience and I know that with him at the helm, DAE will quickly become an integral part of the global aerospace industry.”
Bob Johnson, CEO, DAE said: “DAE’s clear intention is to become a driving force in the global aerospace industry. My role as CEO presents me with the wonderful opportunity to lead this dynamic organisation from the outset.”
The DAE initiative was launched earlier this year, against a background of unprecedented growth in the aviation market. The Middle East has become the leading buyer of aircraft internationally and together with Asia will account for three out of every five wide-body aircraft delivered in the next few years, according to a feasibility study conducted by A.T. Kearney, the leading management consultancy.
Bob is a member of both Board of Directors and Trustees of Arizona State University Foundation. He is also a member of four corporation boards: Phelps Dodge, Roper Industries, Spirit Aero Systems, and Ariba. A native of Zanesville, Ohio, he is a graduate of Miami University. He currently lives in Scottsdale, Arizona.
