  6/26/2006 8:44:53 AM
A group of senior British Parliamentarians visited Nakheel’s Dragon Mart last week, as part of a Treasury Committee inquiry on “Globalisation: its impact on the real economy” in a move to understand the adoption of the most appropriate policies to enable the UK to thrive in competitive global markets.

The Committee met with Abdullah Lootah, General Manager Dragon Mart, and Jamal Bin Marghoob, Commercial and Marketing Manager, Dragon Mart, to gain insight into the Mart’s global positioning and capabilities. “The Committee showed keen interest in the conceptualization and operations of Dragon Mart. We were happy to discuss Dragon Mart’s successes and achievements with the committee and help them understand the importance of Chinese products and the capabilities of Dragon Mart as a redistributive platform for commerce,” said Abdullah Lootah.

The Treasury Committee visiting the Dragon Mart consisted of fourteen Members of Parliament, drawn from across the political spectrum. The Chairman of the Committee, the Rt Hon John McFall, said "Dubai is rapidly becoming a truly global city and the Committee and we are very much looking forward to hearing first hand how Dubai has positioned itself to thrive in the global economy."

Commenting on the visit, Jamal bin Marghoob said, “Nakheel’s Dragon Mart is an important trade hub in the UAE, and is a channel that contributes to the movement of goods internationally. It is growing from strength to strength and expanding its trade throughout with more and more retailers, investors and wholesalers participating in its activities.”

“The Dragon Mart is a valuable contributor to global trade and its facilitative channels help promote competitiveness across regional and international markets. We are pleased that the Committee demonstrated such interest in our operations and investments,” he concluded.
